About Me
Michael Baron, DMD, MD is an Assistant Professor in the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. He holds this position within the Department of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery, Division of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery. He earned his dental degree from Harvard School of Dental Medicine and his medical degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine, where he was inducted into Alpha Omega Alpha and graduated with Honors and Distinction in Research. He completed his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency at the Mount Sinai Health System, along with a general surgery internship at The Mount Sinai Hospital.
Dr. Baron is an oral and maxillofacial surgeon with a special focus on orthognathic surgery, correcting complex jaw and facial skeletal conditions to restore function, alignment, and facial balance. He provides comprehensive surgical care across the full scope of the specialty, including dentoalveolar surgery, dental implants, temporomandibular joint procedures, and craniomaxillofacial trauma. During his training at Mount Sinai, he worked closely with the Head and Neck Surgery service in the multidisciplinary management of oncologic and reconstructive patients, where he helped develop the Jaw in a Day protocol and procedure. Dr. Baron takes a patient-centered approach that considers each individual's overall health, goals, and comfort, and is committed to delivering high-quality, evidence-based surgical care to a diverse patient population with a focus on precision, innovation, and lasting results.
Dr. Baron is also committed to advancing the field through research and education. He has published extensively in the peer-reviewed literature, including the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, and has contributed to leading oral and maxillofacial surgery textbooks. His research interests span virtual surgical orthognathic planning, patient-specific fixation systems, craniomaxillofacial trauma epidemiology, and surgical outcomes analysis. His work has been recognized nationally, including the AAOMS Oral Abstract Scientific Presentation Award, and he has presented his findings at national and international meetings. As a new faculty member, he is dedicated to mentoring residents and students and to fostering collaboration between the Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and the Department of Otolaryngology.
