Michael Harbus Biography

Dr. Michael Harbus is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Rehabilitation and Human Performance at Mount Sinai who specializes in interventional pain management.  He focuses on using minimally-invasive, non-operative techniques to treat pain originating from the beck, neck and joints.   Included among the procedures offered by Dr. Harbus are fluoroscopically-guided spinal injections (epidural steroid injections, medial branch blocks, radiofrequency ablation), ultrasound guided injections, peripheral joint injections, peripheral nerve blocks, sympathetic blocks, injections for headache and spinal cord stimulation.  Dr. Harbus is double-board certified in pain medicine and physical medicine and rehabilitation.

Dr. Harbus is a graduate of Amherst College.  He received his medical degree from New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation residency at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.  Following this, he completed an Interventional Pain Medicine fellowship at Montefiore Medical Center.  Prior to rejoining Mount Sinai as a faculty member, Dr. Harbus was in private practice.  Dr. Harbus has published multiple articles, written multiple book chapters, has presented locally and nationally at numerous conferences, and was recently lead editor of a textbook, A Case-Based Approach to Neck Pain.

Dr. Harbus believes in alleviating pain for his patients by using interventional techniques, pharmacotherapy, physical therapy and by having collaborative discussions about lifestyle.  He is dedicated to providing customized treatment plans for each of his patients, taking into account their functional status and goals.
