About Me
Dr. Michael Choi joined Mount Sinai as a Surgeon in 2021. After completing his undergraduate studies at Stanford University, Dr. Choi graduated from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine. He then completed his residency in General Surgery at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in California before moving to Weill Cornell Medical Center for his fellowship in Gastrointestinal Surgery, Minimally Invasive Surgery, and Bariatric Surgery. With his board certification by the American Board of Surgery, Dr. Choi specializes in minimally invasive surgery, including both laparoscopic and robotic surgery, as well as weight loss procedures. Additionally, Dr. Choi is bilingual and can communicate with patients in both English and Spanish.
In conjunction with his clinical role, Dr. Choi serves as an Assistant Professor of Surgery in the Division of General, Metabolic, and Bariatric Surgery at The Icahn School of Medicine. He is a member of the American Society of Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery and the Society of Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons.
When discussing his pathway into medicine, Dr. Choi explains, "I was motivated to pursue a career in medicine because of my experience with my father who was diagnosed with cancer, so I believe in treating patients like family." Outside of his time in the office, Dr. Choi enjoys hiking, mountain biking, and skiing.
