About Me

Michelle C. Kaku is a neurologist and the Vice Chair of Education for the Neurology Department at the Mount Sinai Health System. She is devoted to providing compassionate and individualized care for patients suffering from a range of neuromuscular disorders, including nerve root, nerve, neuromuscular junction, and muscle disorders. Dr. Kaku believes in collaborative care and works alongside other providers to empower her patients, fostering an open dialogue that leads to well-informed and comprehensive treatment plans.

Her clinical and research interests include managing patients with Amyloidosis, and she has seven years of experience working in the Amyloidosis Center at Boston University. She performs nerve conduction studies/electromyography (EMG), botulinum toxin injections, nerve blocks, trigger point injections and skin biopsies.

Dr. Kaku is board certified in Neurology and Clinical Neurophysiology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. She completed her medical education at Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook University, followed by an internship in internal medicine at Rush University Medical Center. She completed her neurology residency at Mount Sinai Hospital, where she also served as Chief Resident in her last year. Additionally, she completed a fellowship in clinical neurophysiology at Mount Sinai Hospital. Prior to rejoining Mount Sinai as Vice Chair of Education, she served as Program Director of the Neurology Residency at Boston University/Boston Medical Center.

Passionate about medical education, Dr. Kaku enjoys teaching and mentoring trainees. She has received numerous education awards, including Attending Educator of the Year, and has been inducted into the Arnold P. Gold Humanism Honor Society. She actively engages in educational initiatives and support groups to raise awareness about neurological conditions and advocates for improved care and resources.
