Throughout his education and training, Dr. Martillo Correa's research centered on the interface of advanced heart failure, mechanical circulatory support, and heart transplant and cardiology critical care, with contributions spanning multicenter collaborations, database studies, and heart transplant outcomes. Through his work with the Critical Care Cardiology Trial Network (CCCTN), he has co-authored studies characterizing patterns of cardiogenic shock, utilization of palliative care and sex differences in outcomes. He has also investigated short- and long-term outcomes of mechanical circulatory support, including temporary support in elderly patients and national readmission trends.
Dr. Martillo Correa is continuing his research efforts with Mount Sinai where he is focusing on critical care survivorship by investigating outcomes in cardiogenic shock, mechanical support, and heart transplant populations. His long-term goal is to cohesively integrate cardiac critical care and advanced heart failure/transplant research to generate high-impact evidence that improves the care of this patient population.
In his professional community. Dr. Martillo Correa is a member of the American College of Cardiology, the Heart Failure Society of America, and the American Heart Association.
When describing his motivations as a physician, Dr. Martillo Correa explains, "I am committed to providing comprehensive, high-quality care to patients with cardiovascular illness and across the full spectrum of heart failure, from initial diagnosis to advanced therapies and transplantation."
