Mina Rizk, MD
Psychiatry
About Me
Dr. Mina Rizk is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and a licensed psychiatrist in New York State. He provides care for adults with mood, anxiety, trauma-related, and psychotic disorders, with a particular focus on individuals experiencing treatment-resistant depression. Dr. Rizk’s clinical approach integrates evidence-based pharmacologic treatments, interventional therapies—including ketamine and electroconvulsive therapy—and psychotherapy, tailored to each patient’s needs.
In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Rizk is a physician-scientist whose research aims to improve understanding and treatment of mood disorders and suicide. His work combines brain imaging, immune-proteomic profiling, and clinical trials to identify biological markers that can guide personalized care and inform novel therapeutic strategies. He has received funding from the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and the Brain & Behavior Research Foundation for studies examining immune mechanisms in depression and the anti-suicidal effects of treatments such as ketamine and buprenorphine.
Dr. Rizk completed his medical degree and prior residency training in neurology and psychiatry in Egypt before moving to the United States, where he conducted postdoctoral research at Columbia University as a Paul Janssen Translational Neuroscience Fellow. He later completed psychiatry residency at Mount Sinai on the Physician-Scientist Track, where he continued to balance patient care with ongoing research on the neurobiology of suicide and treatment-resistant depression. He is also actively involved in medical education, teaching residents and medical students, and serves as the Assistant Director of the Psychiatry Clerkship Program at Mount Sinai.
