Ming Chao, PhD

About Me

Dr. Ming Chao joined Mount Sinai in 2012 as an assistant professor and was promoted to associate professor in 2020. He is American Board of Radiology certified in the specialty of therapeutic medical physics. Dr. Chao earned his PhD degree in experimental high energy physics from the University of California at Irvine in 2005. He subsequently conducted postdoctoral research in medical physics and received clinical training in the department of radiation oncology at the Stanford University School of Medicine.

Dr. Chao’s research has focused on applying physics and biomedical engineering principles to advance radiation oncology practice. His ongoing research projects include motion management in treatment delivery, personalized treatment planning by identifying risk factors and predictions using artificial intelligence, and development of innovative imaging technologies for cancer diagnosis and treatment.

Beyond his research, Dr. Chao actively provides all aspects of clinical services including external beam therapy and brachytherapy. He is also deeply involved in training the next generation of medical physicists, serving as the Director of the Medical Physics Residency Program at the Mount Sinai Health System.
