About Me
Nicholas A. Hoerter, MD is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Henry D. Janowitz Division of Gastroenterology. Dr. Hoerter received his undergraduate degree from Cornell University and his medical degree from Washington University in St. Louis School of Medicine. He completed his internal medicine residency at New York Presbyterian Hospital – Columbia University Medical Center and his gastroenterology fellowship at NYU Langone Hospital. He then completed an additional year of fellowship training in advanced endoscopic techniques at The Mount Sinai Hospital and stayed to join the faculty.
Dr. Hoerter specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of pancreatic disease, biliary disease, and pre-cancerous and cancerous lesions in the gastrointestinal tract (esophagus, stomach, small intestine, colon). Specifically, he cares for patients with pancreatic cancer, recurrent or chronic pancreatitis, pancreatic cysts, jaundice, biliary obstruction, gallstone disease, Barrett’s esophagus, large polyps, strictures or blockages of the GI tract, and small intestinal bleeding. Advanced therapeutic endoscopic techniques including endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), double balloon enteroscopy (DBE), single balloon enteroscopy, complex polypectomy and endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR), endoscopic balloon dilation, luminal stenting, and radiofrequency ablation (RFA) are integral to this practice. Dr. Hoerter’s research interests include advanced endoscopic techniques and devices as well as the application of artificial intelligence to gastroenterology.
