About Me
Dr. Maher is a fellowship trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in hip and knee surgery with a focus on minimally invasive joint replacement, complex revision joint replacement, joint preservation, and hip fracture surgery. He is a member of the Mount Sinai Doctors Faculty Practice, and serves as Assistant Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.
He completed his fellowship training in joint replacement and adult reconstructive surgery at NYU Langone Orthopedic Hospital as well as the Insall Scott Kelly Institute. Dr. Maher has extensive training in:
● Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) of the hip and knee
● Direct anterior approach and mini-posterior hip replacement surgery
● Computer navigation and robotic assisted surgery - MAKO, Intellijoint, OrthoSensor, Conformis
● Partial knee replacement surgery
● Joint preservation treatment options and surgery
Dr. Maher completed his undergraduate studies at Yale University where he was also a four year member of the varsity rowing team, and received his medical degree from Loyola University Chicago. He completed his residency in orthopedic surgery here at Mount Sinai, with additional subspecialty training at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and CV Starr Hand Surgery Center. In his final year of residency, Dr. Maher was selected as administrative chief resident by the faculty and his peers.
Dr. Maher has been the recipient of numerous honors and awards, and was named to the American Orthopedic Association Emerging Leaders Program in 2018. His research interests are focused on the impact of minimally invasive surgical approaches, the use of technology to optimize implant positioning and joint kinematics, and infection prevention strategies in joint replacement. Together with his team, Dr. Maher is dedicated to providing each patient with personalized care utilizing an innovative approach to hip and knee surgery.
