About Me
I am O’Jay Stewart, a seventh-year MD-PhD candidate at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. I was born and raised in Trench Town, Jamaica. After migrating to the U.S. as a teenager, I pursued my degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology at CUNY-John Jay College. My journey in medicine has been shaped by resilience, community, and curiosity fueled by the desire to help others.
For my PhD thesis, I investigated why individuals with the same genetic mutation can have vastly different disease outcomes, discovering that allele-specific gene expression plays a key role in penetrance of immune disorders.
