Research
Dr. Katsel, since joining the Department of Psychiatry, has conducted research in the Division of Basic Science directed by Dr. Haroutunian. His primary areas of interest are the neurobiology of Alzheimer's disease and schizophrenia. Dr. Katsel applies molecular biological techniques to understand the biological substrates of schizophrenia and dementia. He is also a contributor to Mount Sinai's Silvio Conte Center for Neuroscience and the Alzheimer's Disease Research Center. Dr. Katsel's most recent publications focus on understanding molecular mechanism underlining the oligodendroglial and myelin deficits in schizophrenia as well as on sphingolipid metabolism abnormalities during the earliest stages of dementia and Alzheimer's disease.
