About Me
Perry E. Sheffield, MD, MPH, is Professor in the Departments of Environmental Medicine and Pediatrics, and a faculty member of the Institute for Exposomic Research and the Center on Health and Environment Across the LifeSpan (HEALS), a P30 Core Center of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences.
Dr. Sheffield is co-Director of the New York State Children’s Environmental Health Center (NYSCEHC) —the first such state-wide network in the United States - and also the Region 2 Pediatric Environmental Health Specialty Unit (PEHSU), a US Environmental Protection Agency and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention program that provides environmental health services to communities in New Jersey, New York, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands.
Dr. Sheffield’s research focuses on climate change and human health, with a particular emphasis on children and workers. She has authored more than 70 peer-reviewed articles or chapters, focused on extreme heat, air pollution, and children’s environmental health more broadly. She has spoken internationally and nationally and is an advocate for public policies that protect children’s health. She co-chaired the NYS Climate Impact Assessment’s Health and Safety team and is a member of the US Environmental Protection Agency Children’s Health Protection federal advisory committee.
