About Me

Dr. Peter Goulden, M.D., F.R.C.P. is Division Chief of the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolic Bone Disease at Mount Sinai Morningside & West, Associate System Chief for Faculty Affairs and Associate Professor of at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City. As well as a divisional leader, he serves as a faculty member at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York as an Associate Professor on the Clinician-Administrator Tenure Track, having trained in the U.K. in London & Edinburgh.


His medical interests include type 1 and type 2 diabetes, obesity and endocrinology disorders. He is particularly interested in harnessing the power of technology in improving patient care and exploring the application of novel care models for large population groups.

He provides five endocrinology clinics per week alongside the inpatient endocrinology consult service. His primary focus is on improving diabetes care quality via education of patients, medical and allied health professionals.

Before taking on his current leadership role at Mount Sinai, he served as Director of the Diabetes Program at the University of Arkansas from 2012 to 2019 where he led the Statewide Annual Diabetes Update with the Department of Health. He wrote a regional multidisciplinary diabetes strategy while in the U.K. and was given four clinical excellence awards to recognize his work in diabetes, where he served as the Regional Diabetes Network Chair for West Kent for five years.

He is Board Certified in Endocrinology & Internal Medicine, has published articles and abstracts in endocrinology and diabetes, and serves as clinical medical director for the Mount Sinai West endocrinology service leading its development. He successfully obtained $2.1 million of PCORI funding as co-PI. His work was published in Diabetes Care in 2019.

He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of London. He serves on the International Advisor Board of the Royal College. He serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Obesity and Chronic Diseases.

He was awarded the Cullman Family Award for Excellence in Physician Communication in 2021 by the Mount Sinai Health System. This award is given to physicians ranked in the top 1% nationally for provider communication based on the CMS national patient experience survey. He is listed by Castle Connolly as a Top Doctor in the Castle Connolly Regional Top Doctors Guide: 1st Edition; New York Magazine: Top Doctors: 2021 and Top Doctors New York Metro Area (digital guide): 2021
