About Me

Peter Midulla, MD, is the Surgeon-in-Chief of Mount Sinai Kravis Children's Hospital and Pediatrics at Mount Sinai Health System. He has served as the Division Chief of Pediatric Surgery since 2006 and is an Associate Professor of Pediatric Surgery at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.

Dr. Midulla completed his General Surgery Residency at Mount Sinai and a fellowship in Pediatric Surgery at The Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, D.C. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American Academy of Pediatrics, and an active member of the American Pediatric Surgical Association.

Dr. Midulla's clinical interests and expertise encompass the full range of pediatric surgical conditions, with a special focus on minimally invasive surgery in infants and children, including neonatal laparoscopy and thoracoscopy. He has a particular interest in the laparoscopic treatment of pediatric intestinal and colorectal conditions such as Hirschsprung's Disease and Inflammatory Bowel Disease. He has been recognized as a "Top Doctor" by Castle Connolly.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Midulla plays an active leadership role within the institution. He was appointed Surgeon-in-Chief of Mount Sinai Kravis Children’s Hospital in 2012, where he represents pediatric surgical subspecialists in the Children’s Hospital leadership. He also serves as the Chief of Pediatric Trauma at the Elmhurst affiliate.

As Chief of Pediatric Surgery, Dr. Midulla considers training future pediatricians and pediatric surgeons to be one of his most important missions. He coordinates pediatric surgical education for pediatric residents and provides one-on-one mentorship to each general surgery resident. Under his mentorship, five general surgery residents have matched into highly competitive pediatric surgery fellowship positions, a feat few surgical programs have matched.
