About Me
Rajiv Agashiwala, DO is a board-certified Family Medicine physician providing comprehensive primary care services to patients throughout the life-cycle from newborn babies to geriatric patients. He practices and serves as the Senior Medical Director at Mount Sinai Doctors 2875 Broadway in Manhatten.
Dr. Agashiwala is certified by the American Board of Osteopathic Family Physicians. He is a native New Yorker and grew up in mid-town Manhattan. He attended college and medical school in Long Island at the New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine, completing his Bachelors of Science and Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine Degrees in 7 years through an integrated, accelerated program. He completed his training in Family Medicine at Long Beach Medical Center in Long Beach, NY where he served as the Associate Chief Resident in his second year, and Chief Resident in his final year of residency.
Prior to joining Mount Sinai Doctors, Dr. Agashiwala worked in Brooklyn and Manhattan providing care to the working poor, underinsured and uninsured people of New York. He also worked with AHRC to provide high quality care to the mentally and physically disabled population of New York. He also served as the Residency Coordinator for his residency program where he devoted time to teaching residents and medical students. He has a particular interest in helping the doctors of tomorrow understand both the practice of evidence based medicine and empathy based medicine.
Dr. Agashiwala has also published research with Mount Sinai’s Department of Neuropathology on the causation of Essential Tremor and created a novel methodology of counting Purkinje neuron cells in the brain, a cell line that is notoriously difficult to quantify but is important as they play a large role in the control of the body’s motor functions and coordination.
Dr. Agashiwala has 10 years of clinical experience treating a host of primary care issues based on the best and most up to date medical evidence available. He speaks and provides care in both English and Spanish. He believes strongly in empowering patients to take an active role in their healthcare through patient education, informed decision making and preventive medicine. His philosophy is that symptoms and complaints that are adversely affecting people need to be taken seriously and investigated thoroughly and methodically to find logical, evidence based treatments to restore and maintain an optimal state of function and being.
