About Me
Dr. Owen's clinical and research interests center on Head & Neck and Endocrine Surgery. This includes a broad range of entities including thyroid nodules, goiters and cancer, hyperparathyroidism, mouth, throat, salivary gland and neck cancers and masses.
Consultation in the office may be arranged by appointment and includes a detailed interview and physical examination, along with possible sonogram, needle biopsy or fiberoptic laryngoscopy. Surgical procedures performed by Dr. Owen include minimally invasive parathyroid surgery under general or local anesthesia, thyroid surgery, parotid and salivary gland surgery, as well as head and neck cancer resections. Dr. Owen also performs general surgical procedures including cholecystectomy, appendectomy, incisional and inguinal hernia repair, portacatheter and gastrostomy placement.
Dr. Owen received a B.A. with honors in science and humanities from Seattle Pacific University. He then obtained his M.D. degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. Subsequently, he completed a general surgery residency at Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He then completed a Head & Neck surgery fellowship at Montefiore after which he joined the faculty. In 2006 he became the Chief of the Head & Neck Division at Montefiore. In 2009 he was recruited to The Mount Sinai Medical Center to join the Metabolic, Endocrine & Minimally Invasive Surgery Division.
Dr. Owen has a strong interest in medical missions. He has overseen a re-housing effort in Haiti since the earthquake in January 2010. His additional mission trips have been to the Philippines, Kenya, Romania, Pakistan, Cameroon, Egypt and Gabon. Dr. Owen is the past President of the New York City Chapter of the Christian Medical and Dental Associations.
