Raymonde E Jean, MD

Dr. Raymonde Jean joined the Pulmonary, Critical Care Department of Mount Sinai St Luke’s and Mount Sinai West hospitals in July 1997, after completing both her residency and fellowship training there. She pursued further clinical training in Sleep Medicine at the Sleep Disorders Institute, and underwent special training in smoking cessation at the Mayo Clinic. She is an Associate Professor of Medicine at The Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Dr. Jean received her undergraduate education at Brooklyn College of the City University of New York and her medical education at the Universidad Del Noreste and at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine Fifth Pathway. As faculty, she has worked with her colleagues to drive several patient-driven initiatives, including the formation of a screening team in order to initiate early evaluation and treatment of Critical Care patients being considered for ICU admissions, extending visiting hours in the medical intensive care unit, and developing protocols for sedation and weaning from mechanical ventilation in the critical care units. She is actively involved in several QI initiatives and is the physician champion for early mobility.

Dr. Jean spearheaded a clinical Sleep program at MSSL/MSW including, innovating a CPAP clinic, which focuses on patient education, CPAP compliance and patient outcomes.

Dr. Jean is board-certified in Pulmonary Medicine, Critical Care Medicine and Sleep Medicine. Her clinical activities include primarily critical care and sleep disorders. She was one of the inaugural recipients of the Master of Teaching Excellence Award of 2016, an award given by the housestaff for excellence in clinical teaching. She serves as a member at large of the leadership of the Medical board, the CME and the IRB committees at MSSL and MSW and Mount Sinai hospitals.

Dr. Jean’s research interests include studying the impact of obesity on critical illness, weaning from mechanical ventilation, acute respiratory failure on outcomes and cost, sleep apnea and its impact on acute respiratory failure and quality of life, sleep quality and quantity in critical care, sleep disorders and depression, and CPAP compliance and outcomes.
