About Me

Robert J. Ziets, MD FACS FAAOS, is an orthopaedic surgeon specializing in hand surgery and the treatment of disorders of the hand and wrist.  He also specializes in orthopaedic sports medicine, specifically arthroscopic and reconstructive surgery of the shoulder and knee and the treatment of disorders of the shoulder and knee. In addition, Dr. Ziets is a skilled and experienced trauma surgeon, treating fractures and injuries of the bones and joints.

Having received his undergraduate degree from Northwestern University, Dr. Ziets subsequently attended medical school at George Washington University, where he was awarded Medical Doctor with Distinction upon graduating at the top of his class, also receiving several other prestigious academic awards. He went on to complete his residency in orthopaedic surgery at New York University (NYU) Medical Center. Following residency, Dr. Ziets completed an additional year of fellowship training in hand and reconstructive surgery at University of California San Diego (UCSD) Medical Center. He currently serves as Assistant Professor of Orthpaedic Surgery at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai Medical Center.

Dr. Ziets has done extensive continuing medical education, research and publications in the field of orthopaedic surgery, and he serves on the editorial board of several orthopaedic journals. He maintains certification from the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, including an additional subspecialty certification in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine, and he is a member of Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, a fellow of both the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and American College of Surgeons. Dr. Ziets has been frequently named as one of Castle Connolly’s ‘top doctors’ in hand surgery and orthopaedic surgery.

As an Attending Physician at Mount Sinai Medical Center, Dr. Ziets currently practices at Mount Sinai Union Square, and he sees patients and performs surgery at that location, as well as at Mount Sinai Beth Israel and Mount Sinai West. He currently accepts new patients and participates with most insurance plans. Additionally, his practice is dedicated toward providing culturally competent care for minorities, including sexual and gender minority (SGM) patients.

With years of experience in his field, Dr. Ziets prides himself on providing his patients with clear diagnoses of their conditions and seeing them through treatments, both surgical and non-surgical, to provide the best possible outcomes.
