Roberto Posada, MD
Pediatrics, Pediatric Infectious Diseases
About Me
Roberto Posada, MD, is a Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Infectious Diseases within the Jack and Lucy Clark Department of Pediatrics at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and the Mount Sinai Kravis Children’s Hospital, with additional faculty appointments in Medical Education, and Global Health and Health System Design.
Originally from Colombia, where he attended medical school, Dr. Posada completed his residency and fellowship training in pediatrics and pediatric infectious diseases at Montefiore Hospital (Albert Einstein College of Medicine) before joining the faculty at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Alongside his division colleagues, he provides specialized care for children facing a wide range of conditions, from common pediatric infections to complex, unusual cases. His clinical expertise includes the management and prevention of HIV infection in children and adolescents, fevers of unknown origin, suspected travel-acquired illnesses, and infections in hospitalized or immunocompromised patients, such as transplant recipients and children undergoing cancer treatment.
In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Posada is deeply committed to medical education, academic leadership, and global health initiatives. At the Icahn School of Medicine, he serves as a Career and Professional Development Advisor for medical students, co-directs the Foundations of Immunology and Microbiology module, and directs both the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Fellowship Training Program and the Global Health Track for the Pediatric Residency Program. He is a partner in a collaborative project with a Nepalese team focused on Antimicrobial Stewardship at Dhulikhel Hospital in Nepal. Dr. Posada is a member of both the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Society and the Infectious Diseases Society of America, and has published widely on diverse topics, including pediatric HIV and infections in transplant recipients.
