About Me
Rony Shimony MD, FACC is currently the Director of Cardiology at Atria Institute, and a Cardiologist at The Mount Sinai Hospital . Until June 2022, he served as the Director of Clinical Cardiology at Mount Sinai West Hospital (MSW), part of Mount Sinai Heart, Cardiovascular Institute with the leadership of world renowned Dr. Valentin Fuster, Dr. Jonathan Halperin, Dr. Jagat Narula, Dr and Dr. Samin Sharma.
The internationally renowned Mount Sinai Health System, outstanding Medical School, Residencies, Fellowship programs, encompasses a full range of cardiovascular services including cardiovascular prevention, complex cardiac ,coronary, valvular, and peripheral interventions,full cutting edge electrophysiology services, device implantation and complex ablations, womens health, genetic center, advanced heart failure and heart transplant program with a comprehensive cardiothoracic surgical program lead by Dr David Adams
Dr. Shimony is a Clinical Professor of Medicine, Cardiology, at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. He is a nationally and internationally recognized leading clinical cardiologist who brings over 30 years of experience in highly personalized direct patient care, as well as teaching, mentorship of house-staff and medical students.
Dr. Shimony was awarded a special Congressional Recognition for Outstanding and Valuable Service to the Community. He has been listed in America’s Top Doctors each year from 1999-2023, and was listed in New York Magazine's Best Doctors issue in 2012, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023
Dr Shimony, Dr Jeffrey Bander with Dr Valentin Fuster Started and expanded the Cardiac Program with expert Team members at MSW to approximately 33,000 out patient encouters in 2021. In addition, the team, established the Fireman Hyprtension Program at Mount Sinai, and the Mount Sinai Heart Post COVID Evaluation and Monitoring Program at Mount Sinai West. Premed and Nursing students clinical mentorship education programs were made avaliable to selected students
Dr. Shimony works closely with The Mount Sinai International Services program as a lead medical physician, for comprehensive detailed care for patients from around the world
Dr. Shimony received his BS degree in Biology, graduating Summa Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa from SUNY Albany and received his MD from SUNY at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences . He completed his sub-internship at John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford England, and his internship, residency and fellowship in Cardiovascular Disease, and fellowship in Cardiac Electrophysiology at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York. Dr. Shimony previously served as the Director of the Lenox Hill Heart and Vascular out-patient Center in Manhattan, as well as the Director of Mount Sinai Heart and Vascular Center Mid-Town outpatient facility
Dr. Shimony's team at MSW specializesin treatment of complex cardiovascular cases, integrating all aspects of cardiovascular medicine, coronary CT Angiography, cardiac risk reduction, electrophysiology and device (ICD/Pacemaker) management. The team treats patients at MSW Ambulatory Cardiovascular Center, which is equipped and organized to provide a one-stop comprehensive cardiovascular evaluation with same day results. The cardiology team includes experienced, multi-boarded expert physicians, a nurse practitioner, registered vascular and echocardiography technicians. In addition, the team works very closely with world renowned physicians representing a broad range of non-cardiac medical expertise, while coordinating all the sub-specialties for highly personalized care.
Dr. Shimony also has many years of experience in medical teaching and direct patient care in the developing world. He accompanies his wife in her nonprofit work with Global Goods Partners (www.globalgoodspartners.org) and provides medical training and direct patient care in communities in Africa, Asia and Latin America. He is also served on the advisory board of the Mount Sinai Arnhold Global Health Institute, a program at the Ichan School of Medicine dedicated to improving the health of people around the world.
Dr. Shimony is an active member of the Heart Rhythm Society, the European Society of Cardiology, the European Heart Rhythm Association, and is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology.
