About Me

Dr. Rupa Iyengar-Kapuganti began practicing as a Cardiologist in 2022 and joined Mount Sinai Doctors in the same year. After earning her medical degree from St. George's School of Medicine in Grenada, Dr. Iyengar-Kapuganti completed her residency in Internal Medicine at The Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. She then completed two fellowships with Mount Sinai in Cardiovascular Disease and Advanced Cardiovascular Imaging. During this time, she also earned her PhD in Clinical Research from The Icahn School of Medicine. In the field of Cardiology, Dr. Iyengar-Kapuganti's clinical interests include pericarditis and myocarditis, as well as cardiac imaging, including advanced echo, nuclear cardiology, cardiac MRI, and cardiac CTA.

In her professional community, Dr. Iyengar-Kapuganti is a member of the American College of Cardiology, the American Heart Association, the Society for Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance, the Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography, and the American Society of Echocardiography. Additionally, she has given lectures for medical school pharmacology students at The Icahn School of Medicine.

In conjunction with her clinical work, Dr. Iyengar-Kapuganti is actively involved in research and is currently working with Dr. Icy Fergus and the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute. Her past research topics include the Grenada Heart Project, which formed an assessment of national risk of cardiovascular disease in Grenada, as well as cardiovascular research with WTC first responders, specifically focusing on links to kidney disease, renal damage, and pulmonary function abnormalities. Dr. Iyengar-Kapuganti has also co-authored several publications in prestigious medical journals with topics including atrial fibrillation, WTC studies, and COVID-19.

With her patients, Dr. Iyengar-Kapuganti can communicate in English and conversational Spanish. When speaking on her best advice to patients, Dr. Iyengar-Kapuganti explains "all changes should be made in moderation to allow them to be maintained." Outside of her time in the office, she enjoys music and being active.
