About Me
Salazar A. Jones, MD is an Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery in the Department of Neurosurgery at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and Associate Director of Neurosurgery at Elmhurst Hospital Center. He sees patients at Mount Sinai Queens and Elmhurst Hospital Center.
Dr. Jones completed his neurosurgical training at the University of Maryland Medical Center and the prestigious R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, MD. His training uniquely included a dedicated year to complex spinal pathology in both the Department of Neurosurgery and the Department of Orthopaedics under national leaders in spine surgery. Dr. Jones also served as a skull base research fellow in the Department of Neurosurgery at the Weill Cornell Medical College understanding complex neurosurgical skull base anatomy. Dr. Jones earned his medical degree from the University of California of Los Angeles. Dr. Jones earned a bioengineering degree from the world-renowned Stanford University.
Dr. Jones treats neurosurgical conditions affecting the brain, skull base, spine, and peripheral nervous system. Dr. Jones utilizes techniques in minimally invasive and minimally disruptive surgery of the brain and spine including motion preservation surgery when appropriate. Dr. Jones believes in a patient-centered approach in deciding the necessity for and goals of any surgery. Due to his patient-centered approach, he has received recognition from patients and colleagues including receiving the VA Gold Pin for excellence in patient care at the Baltimore Veteran’s Administration.
Dr. Jones continues to develop his research interests in aspects of traumatic brain injury, brain monitoring, peripheral nerve surgery, and qualitative research on patient centered outcomes.
