About Me
Samantha (Sam) Brown is an MD/PhD student at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. She is currently pursuing a PhD in neuroscience in the laboratory of Dr. Jessica Ables, where she is investigating how cholinergic interneurons in the nucleus accumbens regulate feeding behavior in a rodent model of diabetes. Prior to coming to Mount Sinai, she received a Bachelor's degree in Molecular Biophysics & Biochemistry from Yale University and completed an NIH post-baccalaureate fellowship at the National Institute on Drug Abuse. Sam is actively involved in organizing events with the Manhattan Chapter of Black In Neuro, mentoring undergraduates interested in pursuing MD/PhD training, and serving as a student representative on the Mount Sinai MD/PhD admissions committee.

Physicians and scientists on the faculty of the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai often interact with pharmaceutical, device, biotechnology companies, and other outside entities to improve patient care, develop new therapies and achieve scientific breakthroughs. In order to promote an ethical and transparent environment for conducting research, providing clinical care and teaching, Mount Sinai requires that salaried faculty inform the School of their outside financial relationships.
