About Me
Samsiya Ona, MD, is a board certified obstetrician-gynecologist and maternal-fetal medicine specialist at The Mount Sinai Hospital and an Assistant Professor in the Raquel and Jaime Gilinski Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Science at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Dr. Ona focuses on high-risk pregnancy, with special interest in severe maternal morbidity, cardio-obstetrics, health equity, global/international health, and medical education.
Dr. Ona comes to Mount Sinai after completing her fellowship in maternal-fetal medicine at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. During her time there, Dr. Ona served as resident lecturer and was a member of the Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Council. She also conducted clinical trials on the optimal timing of oxytocin administration in the era of delayed cord clamping.
Dr. Ona earned her medical degree from Harvard Medical School, completing an elective in maternal-fetal medicine with Honors with Distinction. She went on to complete her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Massachusetts General Hospital Integrated Residency Program. During her residency, she served as a medical student mentor and was honored with the Residency Program Award for Excellence in Obstetrics and Gynecology as well as several medical students’ teaching awards, including the Partners Chief Resident Teaching Award.
Dr. Ona has been published in peer-reviewed journals and publications on topics such as longitudinal risk adjustment for maternal end-organ injury and death, service and payer mix of Black-serving hospitals and related severe maternal morbidity, and critical obstetric patients during the coronavirus pandemic.
Dr. Ona is a member of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine.
