Dr. McCance serves as the Co-Director of Spine Surgery at the Mount Sinai Hospital, and also serves as Director of “Spine Associates”, one of the busiest Spine Surgery practices in Manhattan. Dr. McCance completed his Spine Surgery Fellowship at the prestigious Minnesota Spine Center in Minneapolis, and is Board certified in both Orthopedic Surgery and Spine Surgery. He is a graduate of Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and completed his Orthopaedic Surgery residency at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY. He is an Associate Professor of Spine Surgery.
Dr. McCance has been recognized repeatedly by New York Magazine as one of the top doctors for Spine Surgery in the NY Metro Area. He was first recognized in a national survey of physicians as one of
the "Best Doctors" for spine surgery in 2003. Since then he has been included in Castle Connolly's " Top Doctors " for the NY Metro Area, "America's Best Doctors", New York "Super Doctors", America's Top Physicians", and he has been the recipient of the "Patient's Choice Award". Dr. McCance has enjoyed practicing spine surgery in Manhattan for the last 18 years, and has personally performed over 4000 spine surgeries. Conditions treated by Dr. McCance include herniated disk of the cervical and lumbar spine, spinal stenosis, scoliosis in children and adults, spondylolisthesis, low back pain, spinal fracture, tumor and infection. He spends 3 to 4 days a week in the operating room, and has particular expertise in complex reconstructive spine surgery including revision cervical and lumbar surgery, as well as scoliosis correction.
Dr. McCance has authored numerous articles in the field of spine surgery, on topics including cervical and lumbar surgery, scoliosis, and sports-related spine injuries. He has presented his research at both national and international meetings, and is a member of the North American Spine Society, the Scoliosis Research Society, and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
