About Me

Dr. Shunpei Okochi is a board-certified pediatric surgeon, at Mount Sinai Hospital Department of Surgery. His academic expertise is in ECMO, surgical critical care, congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH), and minimally invasive surgery. Dr. Okochi also has academic interests in abdominal and chest wall deformities, neonatal surgery, and solid tumors. He is also interested in research and is currently working on outcome research in ECMO and surgical critical care as well as CDH.

Dr. Okochi received his medical degree and completed his surgical internship at Downstate College of Medicine and completed his general surgery residency at Columbia University in 2020. In 2017, he completed his ECMO fellowship at Columbia University; in 2022, he completed his fellowship in pediatric surgery at the Rady Children’s Hospital at the University of California San Diego; and in 2023, he completed his fellowship in Surgical Critical Care fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh.

Dr. Okochi is passionate about providing excellent care to children and their families. He is currently a member of the American Pediatric Surgical Association. Additionally, Dr. Okochi currently holds positions on the APSA Critical Care Committee, the Society for Critical Care Medicine Committee, and the International Pediatric Endosurgery Group Committee.
