About Me

Dr. Shipu serves as the Deputy Chief of Psychiatry and the Program Director of the Psychiatry Residency Training at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai/NYC Health and Hospitals (Queens), where he oversees the education, training, and mentorship of future psychiatrists. With a deep commitment to academic excellence and compassionate care, Dr. Shipu brings a wealth of clinical experience and leadership to the role.


Dr. Shipu earned his medical degree from Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College in Bangladesh, subsequently completing his residency in psychiatry at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center in New York. He further advanced his expertise with a fellowship in the Public Psychiatry Leadership Program at the New York Grossman School of Medicine/NYC Health and Hospitals.


Dr. Shipu played a pivotal role in establishing an ACGME-accredited psychiatry training program at Queens Hospital Center. He is dedicated to creating an inclusive, supportive, and academically rigorous environment. He is particularly focused on curriculum development, resident wellness, and fostering a culture of inquiry and innovation.


Dr. Shipu is dedicated to the transformative nature of education. His enthusiasm for teaching has been a cornerstone of his professional path, earning him recognition as ‘Teacher of the Year’ multiple times from residents who have benefited from his guidance.
