About Me

Son Duong, MD, MS, is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Pediatric Cardiology at the Mount Sinai Kravis Children’s Heart Center and Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. 

Dr. Duong received his Bachelor of Science in Biology with Highest Honors from the University of Virginia and subsequently received his medical doctorate at the University of Virginia School of Medicine.  He completed his residency training in Pediatrics at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh and completed a Master of Science in Clinical Research at the University of Pittsburgh.  He then completed his Pediatric Cardiology Fellowship at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford, and an advanced non-invasive imaging fellowship at the Icahn Mount Sinai and Mount Sinai Kravis Children’s Hospital. 

Dr. Duong is Board certified/eligible in Pediatrics and Pediatric Cardiology.

Clinical Focus:
Dr. Duong specializes in the care of the fetus, child, and young adult with heart disease.  He has specialty skills in fetal, pediatric, and congenital echocardiography as well as congenital cardiac magnetic resonance imaging and cardiovascular computed tomography.

Research Foci:
Dr. Duong’s research is focused on application of advanced data analysis techniques to large-scale data sources for better prediction of outcomes in patients with congenital heart disease.  He has published on prediction of outcomes in several conditions such as heterotaxy syndrome, heart failure/transplantation, and chronic aortic regurgitation.  He has also studied the effects social determinants of health and racism on congenital surgical outcomes. His current work is focused the application of novel computer-vision techniques and machine learning techniques for artificial intelligence-assisted interpretation of cardiac imaging.  His research has been presented at national conferences and published in peer-reviewed journals.
