Soonwook Hong, MD
Gastroenterology
About Me
Dr. Soonwook Hong joined Mount Sinai as a Gastroenterologist in 2025. After completing his undergraduate studies at Yale University, Dr. Hong earned his medical degree from the Yale School of Medicine. He then completed his residency in Internal Medicine with New York University's Grossman School of Medicine, followed by his fellowship in Gastroenterology at University of California Los Angeles Medical Center. Dr. Hong is board-certified in Internal Medicine and board-eligible in Gastroenterology by the American Board of Internal Medicine. His clinical interests focus on general gastroenterology, including colorectal cancer screening, GERD, constipation, diarrhea, gastrointestinal bleeding, DGBI, and IBD.
In his professional community, Dr. Hong is a member of the American Gastroenterological Association, the American College of Gastroenterology, and the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. He has been published several times, including original research manuscripts on the clinical impact of novel multiplex pathogen panels for detection of gastrointestinal infections and applications of large language models in gastroenterology, as well as several case reports in gastroenterology.
When describing his philosophy as a physician, Dr. Hong explains, "I believe that listening carefully to patients is just as important as making the right diagnosis. My advice to patients is don't hesitate to ask questions - I believe your health journey is a partnership, and I'm here to support you every step of the way." Outside of his time with patients, Dr. Hong enjoys hiking, cycling, and exploring new cuisines - activities that he describes as helping him stay grounded and curious outside the clinical setting.
