Sophia M Saleem, MD

Dr. Sophia Saleem is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai Health. Dr. Saleem attended medical school at the Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia where she graduated Cum Laude and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honors Society. After a transitional intern year at the Washington Hospital Center of Georgetown University, she completed her residency at the University of Virginia. There, she distinguished herself as an excellent clinician and adept cataract surgeon. During her residency, she also researched and published papers on various topics including glaucoma, corneal transplant, and uveitis. She came to Mount Sinai to obtain advanced fellowship training in uveitis. Here, she established herself as a solid clinician and surgeon who is a pleasure to work with. She continues to research with a particular interest in classification and treatment of uveitic conditions. She serves on executive committees for two National Institutes of Health (NIH)-sponsored clinical trials. In addition, she works with the NYEE technology department as a clinical informaticist, using her clinical expertise to develop electronic medical records and participate in research involving this topic. She is an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Uveitis Society. Dr. Saleem's clinical interests include: Inflammatory Eye Disease, including Autoimmune and Infectious Uveitis, Cataract Surgery, Diabetic Retinopathy, Glaucoma, Blepharitis, Corneal Abrasion/Opacity, Refractive Error, Conjunctivitis, Dry Eye Disease.
