Sovrin M Shah, MD

Dr Shah is an attending physician in the Department of Urology, Icahn School of Medicine at Mount SInai. He graduated from The Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education / Stony Brook School of Medicine, an accelerated program. After residency in Urology at SUNY Downstate, he completed a highly competitive fellowship in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery at University of California, Los Angeles. Dr. Shah is one of only a few urologists in New York who is board-certified in the field of Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery (FPMRS). Dr. Shah has been practicing since 2004 specializing in the care of male and female patients with urinary problems and female patients with pelvic organ prolapse. He has developed this specialty and built an active practice in collaboration with a network of referring physicians consisting of primary care providers, gynecologists and neurologists. Dr Shah values patient – physician relationships and believes in patient education to aid in treatment decision making. Dr Shah has authored several papers and book chapters and has been invited as moderator and lecturer at Medical Schools in the tri-state area and at national conferences. He is involved in teaching residents in the specialties of urology, obstetrics and gynecology, general surgery, neurology, family medicine, pain and palliative Medicine, geriatrics, and wound and ostomy care. Dr. Shah is a member of the Medical Board of Mount Sinai Beth Israel and member of the Perioperative Surgical Committee. He is Chairman of Quality Improvement for the Department of Urology and Secretary of the Urology Section of the New York Academy of Medicine. He is a member of national organizations including The American Urological Association (AUA) and the Society of Urodynamics, Female Pelvic Medicine, and Urogenital Reconstruction (SUFU).
