Stephan Lestin, MD

Stephan Lestin, MD (He/Him/his) is an Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine. Dr. Lestin joined the Department of Emergency Medicine at Mount Sinai in 2022, after completing residency at Mount Sinai Morningside and Mount Sinai West. 

During residency, Dr. Lestin served as the resident director of MSMW Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion committee, a program he co-founded with faculty members and residents. The program is designed to improve emergency medicine’s dedication to expanding our curriculum’s focus on health equity education, outreach into our underserved communities, promoting social justice advocacy and increasing the presence of underrepresented minorities in medicine. A notable initiative was hosting Vote-ER, a program for Emergency Medicine providers to integrate civic engagement and voter education into their practice. Also during residency, Dr. Lestin led the EDs COVID-19 Vaccine hesitancy outreach program, which trained providers, medical students and staff in COVID-19 vaccine education during the pandemic.

Since then, Dr. Lestin has continued to lead efforts around community engagement. In 2023, Dr. Lestin launched the Emergency Medicine Clinical Health, Advocacy, Mentorship Pathway program (EM-CHAMPPs), an immersive clinical and educational volunteer program for enthusiastic and inspired undergraduate students interested in careers in emergency care. In September 2023, he co-led Mount Sinai West’s Emergency Department inaugural community health fair.

As a Queens native, he completed his undergraduate degree at CUNY City College of New York/Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education and obtained his medical doctorate at New York Medical College. His current clinical interests include addressing health disparities within the emergency department, diversity and inclusion, and community engagement.
