Stephen F Johnstone, MD
Orthopedics and Orthopedic Surgery
About Me
Dr. Stephen Johnstone has practiced Orthopedics since 2016. After completing his undergraduate studies at Stanford University, Dr. Johnstone graduated with his medical degree from Joan and Sanford I. Weill Medical College of Cornell University. He then completed his residency in Orthopedics at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center before moving to the Hip and Knee Center of NY Presbyterian Hospital for his fellowship in Adult Reconstruction. With his certification by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery, Dr. Johnstone specializes in hip and knee joint replacements. Additionally, Dr. Johnstone is bilingual and can communicate with his patients in English and German.
In conjunction with his clinical role, Dr. Johnstone serves as an Assistant Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at The Icahn School of Medicine. In his time with patients, Dr. Johnstone finds it most rewarding to improve a patient’s well-being through his ability to replace pain and limitation with function, mobility, and independence. He aims to see patients as a whole, understanding that their pain is only one part of who they are as people.

Patient Experience Star Ratings and Comments
The Patient Experience Star Rating reflects our patients’ perception of how well their Mount Sinai provider communicated with them during an office visit. The Star Rating is based on patient responses to three questions on a patient experience survey, a standardized questionnaire sent to verified patients and distributed by a third party vendor, Press Ganey. Responses are measured on a scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being the best score.

Industry Relationships
Physicians and scientists on the faculty of the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai often interact with pharmaceutical, device, biotechnology companies, and other outside entities to improve patient care, develop new therapies and achieve scientific breakthroughs. In order to promote an ethical and transparent environment for conducting research, providing clinical care and teaching, Mount Sinai requires that salaried faculty inform the School of their outside financial relationships.
Dr. Johnstone has not yet completed reporting of Industry relationships.
Mount Sinai’s faculty policies relating to faculty collaboration with industry are posted on our website. Patients may wish to ask their physician about the activities they perform for companies.
