Dr. Valenstein is an Associate Professor of Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. He received his B.A. from Columbia University and M.D. with Honors from New York University in New York. He completed his Internship and Residency in Internal Medicine and Fellowship in Medical Oncology at the University of Miami Affiliated Hospitals in Miami, Florida. He practiced in Boca Raton for 14 years before becoming Medical Director of Infusx and SalickNet, subsidiaries of Salick Healthcare in Los Angeles. He subsequently became Medical Director of WellPoint Health Networks (dba Blue Cross of California). He then founded Strategic Marketing Consultants and assisted commercial health plans, unions, medical management companies and pharmaceutical companies in their product design and marketing efforts. After consulting with venture capital firms, he worked for Benchmark Oncology, a cancer disease management company and PersonalPath Systems, a health care website before resuming medical practice in Westchester County. He joined the faculty at Columbia University Medical Center where in addition to his practice, he taught at the Medical School. He joined Mount Sinai in October, 2015, where he is pursuing his interests in primary care, hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, nutrition and exercise.
