Steven Shayani, MD

Dr. Steven Shayani joined Mount Sinai as a Cardiologist in 2016.  After graduating from his medical studies at SUNY Upstate Medical Center, Dr. Shayani completed both his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Winthrop University Hospital. He then remained at Winthrop to finish his training with a fellowship in Cardiovascular Disease. Dr. Shayani also completed a post-graduate training at the Electrophysiology Lab of Beth Israel Hospital/Harvard Medical School. As a triple-board certified physician in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease, and Nuclear Cardiology, Dr. Shayani specializes in atherosclerosis, metabolic syndrome, congestive heart failure, and myocardial infarction. He can also communicate with patients in both English and Farsi.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Shayani serves as Medical Director of MSD Long Island Heart and The Mount Sinai Hospital Director of Outpatient Services for Long Island. He has also been directly involved in patient clinical care while exploring atherosclerotic disease at early stages. His passion for cardiology brought him to cardiovascular research with Dr. Shayani serving as the Chairman and President of New York Heart Research Foundation since 2002. During this time, he has acted as principal investigator for a multitude of national and international clinical trials.

In his professional community, Dr. Shayani holds Fellowship status in the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology and the American Society for Preventive Cardiology, and is a Distinguished Fellow of the American College of Cardiology. Additionally, during his career, Dr. Shayani hopes to impact the current morbidity and mortality statistics associated with cardiovascular disease and play a key role in eradicating it all together.
