Sue J Hahn, MD
Surgery, Colon and Rectal Surgery / Proctology
About Me
Dr. Sue Hahn is an Assistant Professor of Colon and Rectal Surgery at The Mount Sinai Hospital.
Dr. Hahn received her medical degree from SUNY Downstate College of Medicine in Brooklyn. She completed her general surgery residency at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (ISMMS) in 2019 after which she completed a colon and rectal surgery fellowship at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, MA.
Dr. Hahn’s research has contributed to novel techniques to salvage ileal-pouch anal anastomoses to preserve the quality of life for patients with inflammatory bowel diseases. Most recently, she has been part of the team at UMass to investigate the taTME technique in patients with resectable rectal cancer who are eligible for sphincter preservation as part of the eagerly awaited US Multicenter Phase II Study of taTME. Clinically, Dr. Hahn is committed to the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of disorders of the colon, rectum, and anus via abdominal and transanal minimally invasive surgery.
While in residency, Dr. Hahn received the prestigious Arthur H. Aufses, Sr. Prize in Surgery from ISMMS. She is an active member of the American College of Surgeons and the American Society of Colon & Rectal Surgeons (ASCRS), among others. In 2020, she was a reviewer for the journal, Colorectal Disease, and is a member of the ASCRS program committee. She has contributed to various peer-reviewed journals and has been an invited speaker at national events.

Patient Experience Star Ratings and Comments
The Patient Experience Star Rating reflects our patients’ perception of how well their Mount Sinai provider communicated with them during an office visit. The Star Rating is based on patient responses to three questions on a patient experience survey, a standardized questionnaire sent to verified patients and distributed by a third party vendor, Press Ganey. Responses are measured on a scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being the best score.

Industry Relationships
Physicians and scientists on the faculty of the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai often interact with pharmaceutical, device, biotechnology companies, and other outside entities to improve patient care, develop new therapies and achieve scientific breakthroughs. In order to promote an ethical and transparent environment for conducting research, providing clinical care and teaching, Mount Sinai requires that salaried faculty inform the School of their outside financial relationships.
Dr. Hahn did not report having any of the following types of financial relationships with industry and other outside entities during 2024 and/or 2025: consulting, scientific advisory board, industry-sponsored lectures, service on Board of Directors, participation on industry-sponsored committees, equity ownership valued at greater than 5% of a publicly traded company or any value in a privately held company. Please note that this information may differ from information posted on corporate sites due to timing or classification differences.
Mount Sinai’s faculty policies relating to faculty collaboration with industry are posted on our website. Patients may wish to ask their physician about the activities they perform for companies.
