About Me
Sunny Goel, MD, FACC, FSCAI, is an interventional and structural cardiologist and Director of Structural Heart Disease at Mount Sinai South Nassau. He also serves as an attending interventional cardiologist across the Mount Sinai Health System, with clinical appointments at The Mount Sinai Hospital and Mount Sinai South Nassau since 2021, as well as a faculty appointment as Clinical Assistant Professor at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.
Dr. Goel earned his medical degree from Government Medical College in Surat, India, and completed his interventional and structural heart fellowship at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. He is board certified in Interventional Cardiology and Cardiovascular Disease by the American Board of Internal Medicine, in addition to certifications in nuclear cardiology and echocardiography, and is licensed to practice in New York.
Dr. Goel is a member of the American College of Cardiology, the American College of Physicians, the American Medical Association, and the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions, where he serves on the Structural Heart Disease Council. He also serves on the ACC Early Career Editorial Board. His work has been recognized with several national awards, including the SCAI "30 in Their 30s" Award in 2024 and the CRT Young Leadership Award in 2022.
His clinical practice spans the full range of contemporary structural heart procedures, including transcatheter aortic valve replacement, transcatheter edge-to-edge mitral valve repair, tricuspid valve interventions, patent foramen ovale closure, left atrial appendage occlusion, balloon valvuloplasty, and complex coronary interventions. Since taking on leadership of the Structural Heart Program at Mount Sinai South Nassau, he has focused on expanding patient access to advanced structural heart therapies, building multidisciplinary heart team pathways, and establishing the program as a regional referral center for structural heart disease.
Dr. Goel's administrative work centers on the growth and quality of that program - developing heart team workflows, improving procedural quality, and mentoring fellows and junior faculty who participate in clinical research. He has been invited to serve as faculty at national and international cardiovascular meetings. Dr. Goel's research is centered on structural and interventional cardiology, with a particular focus on cardiovascular outcomes. He has authored/co-authored more than 75 peer reviewed manuscripts and has presented at various local, national, and international meetings. He also serves as a peer reviewer for more than 20 medical journals. He has served as corresponding and senior author on peer-reviewed work published in JACC: Cardiovascular Interventions, Euro Intervention, the Journal of Cardiac Failure, and the Journal of the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography & Interventions, much of it in collaboration with the Mount Sinai structural and interventional heart team
