About Me

Dr. Susan Ramdhaney began practicing as a Gastroenterologist in 2008 and joined Mount Sinai in 2023. After completing her undergraduate studies at McGill University in Quebec, Dr. Ramdhaney earned her medical degree from St. George's University School of Medicine in Grenada. She then completed her residency in Internal Medicine at Maimonides Medical Center before moving to SUNY Downstate Medical Center for her fellowship in Gastroenterology. As a double board certified physician by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Gastroenterology and Obesity Medicine, Dr. Ramdhaney's clinical interests include obesity medicine and the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in her field. She also holds a special interest in women in the medical field and the reduction of health care disparities in medicine.

In addition to her clinical role, Dr. Ramdhaney remains involved in academia. She serves as a Clinical Associate Professor and previously was a co-clerkship Director at St. George's University School of Medicine. She also serves as a Preceptor for the Nurse Practitioner Student Program at Long Island University of Brooklyn. In her professional community, Dr. Ramdhaney is a member of the Obesity Medicine Association and the American College of Physicians. She is also a Fellow of the American Gastroenterological Association and the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.

Dr. Ramdhaney has a long history of research and publications within her specialty and beyond. Her past research at Montreal Neurological Institute included investigating the role of cell adhesion molecules during muscle development in Muscular Dystrophy. Her clinical research at Maimonides Medical Center focused on the role of dextran in the prevention of post-ERCP pancreatitis. Dr. Ramdhaney has widely presented at National conferences, including a podium presentation at the American Gastroenterological Association on high early mortality and low satisfaction with the placement of Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy tubes. Finally, she was a recent physician recipient of the GI Genius award/grant from ASGE/Medtronic/Amazon for the use of AI technology to improve polyp detection during screening colonoscopy.

Dr. Ramdhaney's book publications feature the contribution of several chapters to medical books on the topics of nutrition and obesity, endoscopic techniques, and pancreas-related diseases and interventions. She has also had publications in prestigious journals, such as The American Journal of Gastroenterology, as well as media publications, including an article in Readers Digest on the value of exercise, treating constipation and reflux, signs of leaky gut syndrome, and symptoms of gastric ulcer and IBS.

Dr. Ramdhaney has dedicated her career to truly helping those around her. Her early career focused on heavy volunteer work, with this passion for community outreach leading to Dr. Ramdhaney founding her ownsolo practice to reach patients herself. Additionally, she has helped set up a major cardiac institute in the Caribbean to reach people without access to healthcare. When discussing her current time with patients and her role in medicine, she explains, "As a physician specialist, I help my patients achieve good health and wellness by actively listening and addressing their medical concerns in a hierarchical manner in order to achieve an optimal state of complete physical, mental and social well-being."
