Phacoemulsification alone has been shown to lower intraocular pressure (IOP) in both glaucomatous and non-glaucomatous eyes. However, the impact of phacoemulsification on IOP lowering in eyes with pre-existing glaucoma drainage implants is unclear. Several small, retrospective case series have looked into the effect of cataract surgery in eyes with pre-existing glaucoma drainage implants, but none found a statistically significant change in IOP after cataract surgery. A retrospective chart review (largest study in this topic to date) is being performed to investigate.
