Theodore C Bania, MD

Dr. Theodore “Tod” Bania is Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, Associate Dean for Human Subjects Research Protection, Associate Director for the Program for the Protection of Human Subjects, Institutional Review Board (IRB) Chair, and Director of Medical Toxicology at Mount Sinai West and Mount Sinai Morningside.  He practices emergency medicine at Mount Sinai West and Mount Sinai Morningside.  Dr. Bania has been core faculty in emergency medicine since 1991. His research interests include treatment and antidotes for various drug toxicity and overdoses, HIV, HCV, and substance use education and research ethics and regulations. 
Dr. Bania has published multiple original research articles evaluating treatment and antidotes for cardiovascular drug toxins, chemical warfare agents and various recreational drugs. He was instrumental in developing models for lipid resuscitation therapy that expanded the use of lipids for drug toxicity. He has lectured nationally and internationally on his research in lipid resuscitation therapy. He has multiple published studies on HIV/HCV and substance abuse education. Dr. Bania has extensive experience in research ethics and regulations, serving as Director of Research at Mount Sinai West and Mount Sinai Morningside Emergency Department for over 25 years and as chair of both the IRB and Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) at these institutions. Dr. Bania has received research grant support from the National Institutes of Health and the National Institute on Drug Abuse.
