About Me
Vaishnavi Kundel, MD, MS is an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Department of Medicine, Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine. She is also the Program Director of the Sleep Medicine Fellowship at Mount Sinai. She is board certified in Pulmonary, Critical Care, Sleep, and Internal Medicine. She received her medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia, and completed her Internal Medicine Residency at Emory University in Atlanta, GA. She went on to complete her Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine Fellowships at Mount Sinai. During her training, she was the recipient of the American Thoracic Society (ATS) ASPIRE Fellowship Award for early-career physician scientists, and joined as Faculty at Mount Sinai in 2019.
Dr. Kundel's research interests include exploring the relationships between sleep apnea, sleep duration, atherosclerosis, and visceral obesity using advanced multi-modality imaging. After joining faculty at Mount Sinai in 2019, she was the recipient of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) Physician-Scientist Training Award, through which she completed a Master's in Science and Clinical Research at Mount Sinai. Since, she has also received an NIH Career Development Award, as well as an AASM Bridge Award for Early Career Investigators for her research investigating sleep disorders and cardiovascular diseases. Additionally, she is actively involved in the ATS Sleep and Respiratory Neurobiology Assembly, and served as the Early Career Working Group as Co-chair, from 2019 to 2022. Dr. Kundel's clinical interests include management of various pulmonary diseases and sleep-related disorders.
