About Me

Varun K. Pawar, MD, is an Assistant Professor at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and practices ophthalmology at Mount Sinai Doctors Astoria. A native of Ohio, Dr. Pawar received his medical degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, before also completing an internship in internal medicine there. He went on study advanced ophthalmic practice, completing his residency at Saint Louis University Hospital and his fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Pawar practiced comprehensive ophthalmology at a private practice in Chicago before relocating to New York.

Dr. Pawar provides a wide range of ophthalmic services, with clinical focuses ranging from vision correction to eye injuries and disorders. He specializes in eye inflammation, or uveitis, and combines ophthalmic research with practice to treat and control underlying immune responses that affect the eyes. With a belief that consistency is crucial in treating chronic eye conditions, Dr. Pawar takes special care to build rapport with his patients—listening closely to concerns and explaining their care in plain language.
