About Me
Dr. Vishal Mehta began practicing as a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist in 2018 and joined Mount Sinai in 2022. Dr. Mehta graduated magna cum laude from New York Institute of Technology’s 7-year accelerated medical program, getting his medical education at New York College of Osteopathic Medicine. He then completed his orthopedic surgery residency in the ACGME/AOA accredited program at Hofstra Northwell School of Medicine where he served as co-chief resident in the department of orthopedic surgery. He then went on to obtain further training in sports medicine and arthroscopy at the Medstar Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. There, he was part of the medical teams for the NFL Baltimore Ravens, and Towson University Division 1 college football. He also participated in team coverage for Loyola College and local high school football. Dr. Mehta also helped teach orthopedic residents and medical students rotating through the department of sports medicine. With his board certification in Orthopedic Surgery, Dr. Mehta specializes in sports medicine, and advanced arthroscopy of the shoulder, hip, and knee. His clinical interests include ACL repair vs. reconstruction and makoplasty robotic joint replacement surgery.

Additionally, Dr. Mehta is bilingual and can communicate with his patients in English and conversational Hindi.
As a former athlete, Dr. Mehta understands the psychology of injuries, and stresses the importance of injury prevention. His goal is to return an individual to their preinjury level of function by offering a wide breadth of effective treatment modalities. Non-operative treatment options include opioid-free anti-inflammatory medications, activity-specific physical therapy, cortisone injections, and the latest in regenerative ‘stem cell’ therapy. For patients requiring surgery, Dr. Mehta has experience with a wide range of surgical procedures, including advanced arthroscopic surgery, hip arthroscopy, ACL repair versus reconstruction, and robotic total knee and total hip replacement.
