Waqas Malick, MD
Cardiovascular Disease (Heart Disease)
About Me
Dr. Waqas Malick is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Zena and Michael A. Wiener Cardiovascular Institute of the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Dr. Malick attended medical school at New York University School of Medicine, where he served as student body president. He was elected to the Gold Humanism Honor Society and received the Alumni Association Award for significant contributions to his medical school class. He completed residency in Internal Medicine at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital. He then went on to complete cardiology fellowship at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital, where he served as Chief Fellow in his final year. He then pursued further training with a research fellowship in lipoprotein metabolism and cardiovascular prevention.
Dr. Malick’s clinical practice focuses on cardiovascular prevention and management of lipoprotein disorders, as well as general non-invasive cardiology. He is an active participant in research in cardiometabolic disease. He has served as a sub-investigator on multiple clinical trials assessing the efficacy and impact of novel lipid lowering pharmacotherapies in patients with complex and high-risk lipoprotein disorders, including the OCEAN(a) Outcomes, ARCHES-2, HORIZON-Lp(a), and other trials. His research interests include lipoprotein(a), a relatively novel lipid biomarker associated with increased cardiovascular risk. As a fellow, he was awarded the Glorney-Raisbeck Cardiovascular Research Fellowship grant to research the intersection between lipoprotein(a), inflammation, and coronary atherosclerosis. Dr. Malick has been published in multiple peer-reviewed journals including the Journal of American College of Cardiology and Journal of Clinical Lipidology. In his free time, Dr. Malick enjoys spending time with family, reading, cooking, and training for triathlons and other endurance sports, as these interests intersect with his passion for cardiovascular prevention.

Patient Experience Star Ratings and Comments
The Patient Experience Star Rating reflects our patients’ perception of how well their Mount Sinai provider communicated with them during an office visit. The Star Rating is based on patient responses to three questions on a patient experience survey, a standardized questionnaire sent to verified patients and distributed by a third party vendor, Press Ganey. Responses are measured on a scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being the best score.
Dr. Malick Is always friendly, professional and shows great care about your concerns. Always listens to you and explains everything in a way that I can understand. He is one of the best and I would recommend him anytime to friends and family members.
My Dr was excellent very straight forward really care about my situation!
Dr. Malick is awesome. He is obviously very smart. But he really knows his stuff. I know he probably deals with a lot of really old people and his youth may be intimidating, but I know the care and expertise is top of the line. I'm at the beginning of my heart disease journey but he has helped me to keep it to a minimum and given me the info so I know what I will need to do and research if something needs to change in my care plan. [...] He is clearly an asset to the practice.
