Dr. Merchant is a board-certified internal medicine physician with over a decade of experience in hospital medicine, outpatient chronic disease management, and preventive care, emphasizing evidence-based medicine and personalized approaches to patient needs.
She is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and an attending physician at the Mount Sinai Hospital. Dr. Merchant has served as Chief of Internal Medicine at Mount Sinai Doctors Brooklyn Heights and has been involved in the recruitment and training of medical trainees.
Her clinical interests include population health management, preventive medicine, women’s health, and managing complex acute cases requiring hospital admission. Committed to improving community health, Dr. Merchant has also served on the board for population health initiatives.
Originally from Japan and internationally trained, she worked as a research fellow at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center/Harvard Medical School and completed her Internal Medicine residency program at Norwalk Hospital, affiliated with the Yale University School of Medicine. Dr. Merchant also holds a master’s degree in Clinical Service Operations from Harvard Medical School.
